The OG's of Worship Jazz

Dr. Ken G Wilson & David Robinson

A Detroit choir man and a Detroit producer, alone in a basement with the tape running. Cut at Aviday Studios in the early-to-mid 1990s and kept on the shelf for thirty years. This is that music, rebuilt.

By the time these sessions happened, Dr. Ken G Wilson had already written Prepare to Meet Him for Reverend James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir, and had been directing his own Kenneth Wilson Chorale in Detroit since 1986. This record is what he sounded like with the choir stood down — no massed voices, no arrangement to conduct, just a man who knows where the worship lives playing it straight into the room.

The original date had no click and no grid, and no second take chasing a first one — the tape ran until each take felt finished. It was never pressed and never shopped; it sat in a case while both men went on to other work — Wilson to Lifestyles of Worship and Incorruptible Seed, Robinson to the Aviday catalog.

The tape is the blueprint, not the record. These eight songs have been rebuilt for 2026 as new generative recordings — same compositions, same arrangements, same writing credits, carried by models rather than by the two men who first cut them. The basement session is where this music comes from. It is not what you are hearing.

Dr. Ken G Wilson

Detroit gospel composer, choir director, radio host, author and newspaper publisher. A Mumford High School alumnus — the same school that produced Winanses, Clarks, Fred Hammond and Deitrick Haddon. Wrote Prepare to Meet Him for Reverend James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir in 1979 and organized the Kenneth Wilson Chorale in 1986, releasing Lifestyles of Worship (2006) and Incorruptible Seed (Love Records, 2017).

David Robinson

Producer, songwriter and founder of Aviday Music, established 1987 — the Detroit soul lineage carried into a Charlotte, North Carolina era across gospel, funk, jazz, R&B and hip-hop. Engineered and co-performed these sessions at Aviday Studios and oversaw the 2026 rebuild for AVDY Signals.

Archive Tier C — Reimagined. The compositions on this album were written and first recorded by Dr. Ken G Wilson and David Robinson at Aviday Studios in the early-to-mid 1990s. This 2026 release is a new generative recording of those compositions, produced under commercial license and disclosed at distribution. Writing credit is unchanged. It is not the original tape and is not presented as the original performance.
